May 12, 2021 · Health disparities during the pandemic reflect important patterns of inequity. First, racial minorities stand at the intersection of multiple barriers. They experience discrimination based on their race, gender, and immigration status. Second, racial minorities disproportionately work in higher risk environments that exposes them to the virus. Migration has contributed to the richness in diversity of cultures, ethnicities and races in developed countries. Individuals who migrate experience multiple stresses that can impact their mental well being, including the loss of cultural norms, religious customs, and social support systems, adjustment to a new culture and changes in identity and concept of self.
